At the latest meeting of Garioch Probus Club Sarah Bell gave an overview of the Garioch Community Kitchen, which is based at the Wyness Hall in Inverurie.

Despite Covid the organisation still managed to deliver 1,843, much needed meals, to 247 needy children.

63 Christmas parcels were also delivered in 2021 despite restrictions.

The Garioch Probus Club heard of the practical cooking courses for different age groups, and how to plan a week’s meals on a limited budget.

This was geared particularly to all ages, but most recently to the 16-24 age group.

While instructors give the practical sessions, volunteers are still needed for preparation and assisting those taking part.

During the sessions the kitchen team came to realise that many did not have the basic kitchen equipment, and they started providing pans, pots, and utensils.

While many connected to the project donated surplus, or unused equipment, much more is needed.

An appeal is now being made to Inverurie households to donate what they can to help provide basic equipment to needy families.

Fund raising is an annual problem, however through grants and events the Garioch Community Kitchen raise finance.

The project has managed to operate, albeit in a different way to normal, during the pandemic.

The Probus members present were surprised to hear of the many needy families in their midst, more than many had realised.

If you can help with surplus kitchen equipment or feel able to volunteer a few hours per week, you can e-mail gariochcommunitykitchen@hotmail.co.uk for further information.
