A pandemic and a storm weren't enough to quell the Christmas spirit of Oldmeldrum's residents as they gathered for a down sized celebration this weekend.

On Sunday locals gathered for the annual switching on of the lights, however instead of the usual Big Switch On event bursting at the seams with festive spirit and entertainment this year Oldmeldrum hosted a Wee Switch On.

Organised by Meldrum Amenities Improvement Group, the downscaled event did not diminish community spirit as families gathered to countdown to the big moment and share in the magic of this year's display of twinkling lights.

The lights were switched on by elf Andy with the support of youngsters.

It is hoped that a larger event may be able to return next year.
