A NEW vice lord-lieutenant and two recently-appointed deputy lieutenants have been presented with their commissions.
On Monday, June 5, Brigadier (retired) The Hon. Hugh Monro CBE, was presented with his commission as vice lord-lieutenant of Banffshire.
Hugh, from Glenlivet, was made a deputy lieutenant in 2019 and is taking over the post of vice lord-lieutenant after the retirement of Mrs Patricia Seligman MBE.
Hugh brings a wealth of experience to the role, both in the military and service in public life, including as HM Chief Inspector of Prisons and Chair of the Scottish Prison Service Advisory Board. He is currently involved in a number of community activities.
The two newly-appointed deputy lieutenants presented with their commissions were Major (retired) Maurice Gibson MBE and Dr John Harrington.
Maurice, who lives in Clochan, served in the army for 19 years before being employed in a number of roles in farming and estate management.
He returned to working for the Ministry of Defence as Regimental Secretary to The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons) before retiring earlier this year.
Dr Harrington, from Keith, was a partner in the Keith General Practice. As well as developing the medical practice in his hometown, his interest in emergency care led him to working in Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.
After providing medical cover for a special stage motor rally in Inverness, he went on to be chief medical officer for the majority of the Scottish Rally Championship and became involved in improved safety and medical planning at regional and national levels.
Banffshire's lord lieutenant Andrew Simpson said: "Hughie Monro’s wide experience and leadership will be extremely beneficial in taking forward the role and work of the Banffshire Lieutenancy.
"Maurice Gibson and John Harrington bring to the Lieutenancy professional and personal skills as well as local knowledge that will make invaluable contributions to the communities of historic Banffshire.
"I look forward to working with them."
