The latest in a series of north-east community events to bring together locals and members of the refugee community is set to take place in Ellon on Friday, June 23.

You. Me and a Cup of tea will be hosted at the Ellon Baptist Church from 7pm to 9pm and all are welcomed along for refreshments, quizzes and games as well as musical entertainment.

The event was recently held at Daviot village hall near Inverurie as part of Refugee Festival Scotland where one of the organisers Patrica Findlay of Aberdeen Interfaith explained: " We wanted it to be an opportunity for local people to meet and get to know some of of our new-comers from the Middle East and Ukraine.

There was no doubt as an exercise in friendly fraternisation it was a great success.

Refreshments were also a happy marriage of local baking and Syrian and Ukrainian traditional delicasies.

Barthol Chapel entertainer Alison Hepburn got everyone joining in her sing-along, hand-clapping, toe-tapping when they didn't know the Doric songs.

There was an informal questionnaire Me and my family where guests were invited to tell about their own families and where they came from.
