College present special award to Gardenstown graduate

Gardenstown’s Alana Cardno was named Scottish Qualifications Authority Student Award winner at North East Scotland College's Fraserburgh Campus graduation ceremony.

This prize, presented by NESCol regional board chairwoman Susan Elston on behalf of the SQA, follows a significant contribution to the college community by Alana during her studies on the HNC Business course.

Curriculum manager David Herd, who nominated her for the award, said: “Alana displayed exceptional dedication, perseverance and academic achievements throughout her studies.”

Beyond her own personal achievements, Alana played an invaluable role within her class, providing support and guidance to fellow students.

Award judges were impressed by her role in creating a collaborative and supportive environment, fostering a sense of camaraderie.

Now working full-time in administration, the NESCol experience has given the award-winning student the appetite to continue her professional development.

Alana said: “I thoroughly enjoyed everything about my time at college. So much of that was about the people I met, my fellow students and lecturers, but the coursework was really engaging and rewarding too.

“I’m really keen to build on my qualifications in the future, this has given me the appetite for that.

“We were part of a small group and it meant we got to know each other so well, it felt like an extended family.

"Being able to support and encourage each other was a big part of life at college, and the lecturers were brilliant in that sense too.”

Alistair McKay, regional manager for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire at SQA, said: “A huge congratulations to Alana for receiving the Student Award.

"Her hard work and dedication to learning deserve to be recognised, and I wish her all the best for her future.”
