North-east concertgoers can hear the world-famous percussionist Colin Currie perform with his quartet at The Barn, Banchory on Sunday, April 21.

The Colin Currie Quartet was formed in 2018 to present the diverse and exciting music written for percussion quartet, comprising Colin Currie, Owen Gunnell, Adrian Spillett and Sam Walton.

Described by composer Steve Reich as "one of the greatest musicians in the world today", Colin Currie is the soloist of choice for many of the world’s foremost conductors.

The concert is part of a tour supported by Chamber Music Scotland, which has commissioned Scottish composer and accordionist Aileen Sweeney to write a new work for the quartet.

This will be featured in the Banchory performance, alongside works by American composers Steve Reich, Julia Wolfe and Andy Akiho.

Colin said: “I look forward immensely to bringing my treasured quartet, the Colin Currie Quartet, on an extensive Scottish tour with some of the best and most exciting percussion repertoire of our day.

“We are elated to be presenting a superb world premiere by composer Aileen Sweeney as part of this tour.”

The concert is being co-promoted by Woodend Music Society, and Aboyne Arts and Theatre Development Group.
