A coffee morning organised by Turriff Thistle Football Club raised £1500 at the weekend.

Early worries about the weather were soon calmed as tables filled up with locals ready for a buttery and a hot drink.

The event, which took place in Turriff Legion, also boasted an overflowing home bakes stall and raffle.

A spokesperson for the club said: "Turriff Thistle are delighted to announce that a magnificent £1500 was raised at the coffee morning.

"The club would like to offer their grateful thanks to the following who contributed to the immense success of the event -The Royal British Legion who provided the venue and the kitchen facilities; the local businesses and individuals who assisted in providing tea, coffee, butteries, biscuits and more for the day; the club's sponsors, local businesses, players and officials who donated the massive selection of raffle prizes; the mothers, wives, sisters, girlfriends and friends of the players and officials who took the time to produce the vast range of home bakes for sale on the day and the players and officials who turned up to assist in setting up, serving, clearing up, dish washing and, hopefully, leaving the hall and kitchen the way we found it.

"Last, and most importantly, an incredible and heartfelt thank you to each and everyone of the unbelievable number of people who braved the freezing temperatures and frozen pavements to attend the event and make it such an unimaginable success.

"Everyone involved with the club thanks you for supporting Turriff Thistle Amateur Football Club which we are eternally grateful for."
