The Aberdeen Clydesdale Show moved to its new home near Kintore on Saturday and has been hailed as a success with plans already underway for next year's event.

After decades of taking place at Duthie Park in Aberdeen, financial restrictions imposed by Aberdeen City Council meant that a new home was needed and a move was agreed to land near Kintore owned by Malcolm Allan.

Competitors from across the country and as far as Orkney made their way to the site near Leylodge on a much expanded show field, which offered an extended site including some new additions to the competition.

The Show's Karen Campbell said: "The Aberdeen Clydesdale Show would like to thank everyone who played a part in this year's show.

"Congratulations to all our competitors on their achievements and to all the sponsors who provide the funding and all the volunteers who gave up their time to help.

"In particular our thanks go to our main sponsor Malcolm Allan for opening up his farm and providing us with a new venue, which really is top class and I think we all agree it has secured the future of the Aberdeen Show.

"It was always going to be a gamble moving from a historical site however all the positive feedback has been amazing so far and as Malcom himself said to me this morning 'I think we pulled it off', it is after all about keeping the Aberdeen Show going and giving everyone the opportunity to keep showing their horses”.

Karen continued: "For me the highlight was finally being able to expand on our classes, and include a driven class.

"As a committee we have spoken about this in the last two or three years but it wasn’t ever a possibility.

"Now on private ground anything is possible, and feedback from the drivers I’ve spoken to is very exciting indeed.

"Originally the Aberdeen Show in it’s foundation stage was purely an in hand event, the addition of a ridden class was somewhat of a new thing in it’s time.

"I believe the move to Kintore will not only secure the future of the Show, but give it the chance to evolve further, and those with driving horses another local show in the calendar at which to compete.

"A huge thank you also goes to our decorated harness competitors for all of their dedication, and time, to bring their harness in front of the judge.

"t’s one thing to prepare a Clydesdale for an in-hand class, it’s totally another to fully dress a decorated harness horse on the day of a show and look after it all year long.

"And finally, it goes without saying of course, congratulations must go to the Team at Collessie.

"Pete and Ronnie Black who travelled up from Fife with a lorry load of horses taking home many red rosettes, the Foal and Senior Female Champion prize and the Overall Show Champion prize.

"Collessie Alanna is somewhat of a celebrity, and we were delighted to have her in our line-up yesterday. "
