CARS from a bygone era will be showcased next weekend during Banff Rotary Club's summer fundraising event.

A huge array of classic vehicles will roll into the town's St Marys Car Park on Saturday, August 10 for the annual Rotary Club Classic Car Experience.

There will be an opportunity for visitors to choose a car to travel in and owners will take them on a return trip to Portsoy.

A 1983 Porsche Carrera is sure to turn heads, along with the 1973 Triumph Stag.

Going back to even earlier times, the 1952 Vauxhall Wyvern and one of the most stateliest cars around, a 1960 Humber Sceptre, will also be at the event

Most likely to be the oldest model on display is the 1932 Lanchester.

Also included in the array of cars will be the ever-popular 1971 VW Beetle, a 1963 Rover P4, a 1971 Morris Minor 1000, the Mercedes Benz 380 and the 1976 Ford Escort Mexico.

Organiser Marco Crameri said: “This is a great opportunity to enjoy a range of cars – probably one from every decade of our lives.

"They invoke such nostalgia. The Rotary Club has organised this event for a number of years, and we all enjoy hearing visitors speak about how these cars bring back great memories of perhaps riding in grandpas car on a Sunday, or going out with dad in his open top tourer when you were small.

“This is becoming an increasingly popular event. It’s a wonderful opportunity to chat to these owners and share stories of our own car experiences.”

Admission is free to the event. The Rotary Club organise the event purely for the community – but welcome any donations from those who wish to be taken for a spin in one or more of the cars on display.

Club president Irene Finlayson said: "Cars really do pull at the heart strings. We all have some memory or another of a car which we got excited about as a child.

"This is always a lovely day when folks can come along with their families and enjoy the cars.

"This year we shall have a display of a Shelter Box tent for everyone to see – something we send out occasionally to various parts of the world if a disaster has occurred and people are homeless.

"It’s a unique concept and just a small example of the various themes and projects we are involved in at Banff Rotary Club, so it’s a good opportunity for local people to catch up with us too.”

The event will go ahead irrespective of the weather and will be open from 11am to 3pm.

The club will be busy again next month when it hosts the Rotary Texas Scramble golf event at Duff House Royal Golf Club.

The event attracts golfers from across Aberdeenshire and beyond, so to guarantee your team place visit the Rotary Club's website.
