Clashindarroch fund's boost for community projects

Four projects in Aberdeenshire will receive a boost in funding thanks to the Clashindarroch Wind Farm Community Fund.
The Fund which was established by wind farm owner Vattenfall and administered by Foundation Scotland saw just over £58,000 of grants approved by the Community Fund Panel, who meet twice a year to decide on funding awards which support local organisations based in the areas of Moray and Aberdeenshire.
They most recently met on June 19 at the Acorn Centre, in Cabrach.
Two awards will be used for community hall refurbishment works to improve the function and sustainability of Clatt Village Hall in Huntly and Glass Community Hall in the parish of Glass which sits on the banks of the River Deveron.
Both awards are examples of the fundamental aims of the fund, which aims to invest in and improve community services and facilities while creating community impact that will continue for years to come.
Two further awards were made to Huntly FC Women to support the girls and young women under 16 team, and to the Huntly Hairst event in September, a unique annual harvest festival that takes place in Huntly.
Rachael Ashley from the Glass Community Association said: “We have benefited hugely from grants from the Vattenfall’s Clashindarroch Wind Farm Fund and are future-proofing our old Hall and creating an adjacent green space for the whole community to use.
"In very rural areas like Glass, which has low population numbers, wind farm funds like Clashindarroch provide a very welcome source of capital with which we can regenerate our communities.”
Sam Dowdall, Chair of the Vattenfall Clashindarroch Wind Farm Community Fund panel said: “As the new chair of the panel, it is great to see a wide range of applications to the fund from capital works like those being carried out in Glass, and community events such as the Huntly Hairst.
"This investment in the communities of the area by the Vattenfall Clashindarroch Wind Farm makes all the difference, as we support a wide range of groups as they build their capacity and provide resources and services to those who live here.”
The Clashindarroch Wind Farm Community Fund panel meets twice a year to award funds secured from Vattenfall’s Clashindarroch Wind Farm.
The next closing date for the fund is September 4.
