Christmas comes early for north-east charities thanks to Piper Sandler's Sportchallenge

Funds totalling over £75,000 raised during Piper Sandler’s Sportschallenge event have been donated to five Scottish charities this week.
The money raised during the north-east’s premier sports-themed corporate fundraising dinner will be split between the long-term beneficiaries of the event, Maggie’s and Children’s Aid (Scotland), and three other local causes.
The local still birth and neonatal death support group, Aberdeen SANDS, along with Home-Start Aberdeen and the Living Well Café will all benefit from the much-needed funding boost to the tune of £10,000 each.
Managing director of Piper Sandler and a trustee of Sportschallenge, Nick Dalgarno said: “It’s heart-warming to be able to bring some much-needed cheer to these local charities this Christmas, thanks to the generosity of those who attended our event in September.
"We’re particularly pleased to be able to spread our donations across a number of deserving local causes, all of whom have struggled during the past few years when fund-raising events and initiatives were curtailed.”
Receiving the money on behalf of Home-Start Aberdeen, which provides practical and emotional home visit support to local families to create a secure home environment, Alasdair Macrae said: “We could not be more delighted to receive the generous funding raised by those who took part in the Sportschallenge event.
"This substantial donation will have a profound effect on the people we support, allowing us to provide services for more than 20 families for a year.”
The Living Well Café offers a safe and friendly space to support people with memory loss or dementia, their families and carers.
The charity's Jeanette Abel said: “The funding from Sportschallenge is the best Christmas gift we could receive.
"It will ensure that the costs of food, drink and entertainment for all four of our cafes are covered over the festive season and beyond.
"The donation means that we enter 2023 on the right footing financially and will ensure that we can continue to welcome those with memory loss or dementia, their carers and families, looking for a temporary escape from their day-to-day struggles through music, dance and fun.”
The Piper Sandler Sportschallenge event, held in September this year and supported by CNR International, attracted over 55 teams of 10 from businesses across the region who battled it out over five rounds of sports trivia in a Question Of Sport style quiz, hosted by sports personalities Alan McInally and Andy Walker at Aberdeen’s P&J Live.
Preparations are currently underway for next year’s Sportschallenge event.
