Garioch Fish Bar, Inverurie, named one of the best takeaways in UK

An Inverurie chipper has been named one of the best in the UK after scoring a whopping 98 percent during a mystery shopper visit.

Garioch Fish Bar have been crowned one of the top 50 fish and chip shops in the country by Fry Magazine, an accolade that owner Murray Morrison is deeply proud of.

After learning that they had narrowly missed out on placing in previous years, the team made some tweaks and worked hard to guarantee a consistently positive experience for their customers.

Changes have included post-fry drainage times and the way the chips are cooked.

Speaking to the Inverurie Advertiser, Mr Morrison said: "The key was consistency.

"I'm fair chuffed, this is a reward for all of the staff and their hard work.

"It's a great team, everyone enjoys working here and works hard and it shows.

"The top 50 all scored over 96 percent; we don't get to find out exactly where we fall in the top 50 - there's not a top ten or a number one spot - but we have been told we scored 98 percent, we just got everything right."

On Thursday evening after announcing the business's success, Mr Morrison saw sales spike as locals joined the celebrations.

The placement has provided a great boost to everyone at Garioch Fish Bar following the pandemic and a fire on site last summer, and with worries about rising energy costs looming over the heads of chip shops across the country the announcement has come at the perfect time.
