Chewin’ the Fat actress Karen Dunbar is bringing her Breackneck Comedy act to the north

The ‘Chewin’ the Fat’ star said: “This show is for everybody, every age … Well, 18 and over LOL!

“It’s a mix of stories about my life and stories about Chewin the Fat and ‘The Karen Dunbar Show’ so there’s something for everyone.”

Karen has trodden the boards everywhere, from Glasgow pantomime to West End theatre, performed Burns, Shakespeare, stand-up and DJ-ed in New York as well as at TRNSMT and in Ibiza.

In 2014, she even opened the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in front of one billion TV viewers.

Karen first found fame in the BBC Scotland series, Chewin’ The Fat, where she played instantly recognisable characters including the Lonely Shopkeeper and the Depressed Taxi Caller.

Her Olive Actory (“I smell sh*te”) character has become a popular meme. She went on to have her own BBC series, The Karen Dunbar Show.

This is her fourth tour with Aberdeen-based promoters, Breakneck Comedy and company founder, Naz Hussain, claimed it’s their most ambitious to date.

He said: “Karen’s shows are a great night of laughs, jokes, stories, and anecdotes from her career. The fact that she has so many fresh new stories to share is testament to her talent.”

Breakneck Comedy aims to bring top comedians and performers to towns and venues that might not be on the usual tour schedule.

“I love bringing big names to towns that some promoters might overlook” says Naz. “We make it easier for people to be able to enjoy a great night of comedy and entertainment without them having to worry about catching a train home from the city.”

‘An Evening with Karen Dunbar’ hits: the Kingsmill Hotel, Inverness at 7pm on Thursday, May 22; Forres Town Hall at 8.30pm on Saturday, May 24; Lossiemouth Town Hall at 8.30pm on Saturday, September 13; Nairn Community and Arts Centre at 6pm on Friday, September 26; Banff Springs Hall at 8.30pm on Friday, September 26; The Fisherman’s Hall in Buckie at 8.30pm on Saturday, October 11; and New Elgin Hall at 8.30pm on Saturday, November 29.
