A YOUNG Huntly man whose career in the food industry began as a butcher’s message boy has returned to the town as a chef at the recently opened Bank Cafe and Restaurant.

Shaun McWilliam, (28) comes to The Bank after four years as a chef at the Crieff Hydro.

After leaving school at 16, Shaun went to Moray College to study professional cookery and during his studies worked at the Castle Hotel.

He followed his mum and granny into the bakery business but then returned to the catering industry at a hotel in Comrie in Perthshire.

Shaun joins a largely local team in the kitchen at The Bank where he takes charge of the dessert menu but is expected to turn his hand to whatever is needed.

His favourite pudding to create is a white chocolate and honeycomb cheesecake but he also takes great pride in creating an appetising cheeseboard.

Shaun said: “It felt a bit weird at first being back in Huntly but I am really enjoying it. You need to be able to jump in where needed so no two days are the same. I am really pleased to have joined the team at such an exciting time and to be part of their business plans.”
