A family in Newburgh have been inspired during lockdown to design a 'Covid Caterpillar' called Charlie.

Caroline Rodger saw the idea online as schools and nurseries in the local area were already doing it for the children so she thought the kids in Newburgh would love to make one for their own community.

She said: “I am currently on the Parent Council as one of the fundraisers and thought looked like it would be a great idea to get the kids out for fresh air and enjoy their daily walks and bring some cheer in such a strange time with Covid-19.

"Their routines have been so all over the place and they are not sure what’s going on so keeping them happy and motivated about doing something artistic and creative was good idea”

As so many local children have contributed to this idea, Charlie the Caterpillar now has over 110 stones and the number is still rising.

Caroline has decided to pick an over all winner of the decorated stones as she explained: “The owner of the barn in Foveran and the View restaurant in Newburgh, Christine Graham, has kindly donated some Smyths toy vouchers for the winners of the stones.

"We have another week left of the competition and there is even a prize for an adults creation so we encourage more people to add to Charlie"
