People in Aberdeenshire who have given up smoking in recent years are being encouraged by a campaigning health charity to share their experiences about how they have successfully managed to quit.

As part of the charity’s preparations for this year’s No Smoking Day on Wednesday March 8, ASH Scotland is urging people to get in touch and tell their stories of personal journeys to give up smoking, and highlight the types of support they found to be most useful.

Sheila Duffy, chief executive of ASH Scotland, said: “Research shows that two thirds of adults in Scotland who smoke say they wish they had never started and want to quit.

“Ahead of No Smoking Day, we are keen to find out about Aberdeenshire residents’ experiences in the last few years of making quit attempts and especially what motivated and helped them to give up smoking for good.

"We’d love to hear everyone’s inspirational stories, which could spur others into following their journeys towards a life free from tobacco.

“We are also interested in hearing about any challenges or barriers faced by people who haven’t yet managed to give up smoking, but are still aiming for a healthier future.

"We want to ensure people in Aberdeenshire are empowered to access all the tools needed to succeed with their decision to quit smoking and to encourage people not to give up if they’ve tried to quit smoking before.”

The charity is asking people to share stories up to a maximum of 200 words by emailing: communications@ashscotland.org.uk or following the link on its website.

ASH Scotland (Action on Smoking and Health Scotland) is the Scottish charity taking action to reduce harm caused by tobacco.

It seeks to improve health and quality of life by helping to create a society which supports young people in remaining tobacco-free, helps those who want to stop smoking, protects people from second-hand smoke and challenges the inequalities resulting from tobacco use.
