A charity which supports play and social opportunities for children with additional support needs is to close the doors of their Inverurie premises at the end of the month.

BECS (Because Everyone Counts) will close the doors of their Inverurie Hub, on Blackhall Industrial Estate, but say that it's not goodbye just see you later.

The charity is now on the hunt for a new location to reopen the BECS activity centre, focussing their efforts on remaining in or near to Inverurie.

Taking to social media to explain the situation, BECS founder Rebecca Mennie wrote: "Unfortunately we have come to the end of our tenancy which means that with a heavy heart BECS is to close on Friday September 30.

"Temporarily this will mean that our services will not be available to those that need it most, however, rest assured that we are doing our utmost to find new premises.

"I know this may come as a shock to many of you and will be especially hard for some of our loyal customers who rely heavily on our services.

"We want to take time to thank you all for being part of the BECS family and supporting us through what can only be described as a rollercoaster of a ride since we first opened back in 2019.

"We would also like to take this time to thank our other third sector groups and organisations who we work with, it have been great learning, collaborating and striving for the same aims.

"Despite everything we have been through, BECS has grown in so many ways through our short time of launching.

"I know I speak for us all at BECS when I say what we are most proud of is seeing all the children come together no matter their ability.

"As many of you are aware BECS was set up to allow children with additional support needs to feel valued and included.

"I have been absolutely blown away with the care you have all shown each other, understanding that we are not the same and by allowing children to play together to learn this from an early age has a positive impact on everyone.

"It will be incredibly sad to leave our home here at the Inverurie Hub but now we must look forward to the next chapter in BECS's journey and we are all very excited about where this will lead.

"From the bottom of my heart, I personally want to thank all businesses, customers, volunteers, staff and funders for supporting my big vision and hopefully we can continue to work together again once we find our new home.

"BECS is part of me and a big part of what I believe in - every child no matter their background or ability should have access to play and feel included.

"From all at BECS - thank you."

The charity has received an outpouring of support since making the announcement, with customers saying that they were "very sad", "gutted" and "devastated" upon hearing the news.

Anybody who knows of a vacant space which may be suitable is encouraged to get in touch.
