Environmental charity, Keep Scotland Beautiful is calling on children and young people from all across Aberdeenshire to take part in its Pop-up Pocket Garden project for National Gardening Week. This challenges children to design, build and grow a garden at home on the windowsill or in their outside space.

Using the themes of the 2020 Year of Coasts and Waters and Keep Scotland Beautiful’s 20th birthday, the charity hopes that Pop-up Pocket Garden will inspire everyone to have a go at growing a garden.

Food and Environment Officer at Keep Scotland Beautiful, Eve Keepax, said: “We hope that our Pop-up Pocket Garden project will provide a lot of fun, linking to our great outdoors while we’re all indoors, and helping young people to learn about food and wildlife.

“Access to outdoor space is not a necessity.

“All participants are in control of their own designs and they can be designed to fit any space they can easily access.

“From plant pots to window boxes or flower beds - we hope that many young people will take part.”

By taking part, children are challenged to consider and learn about the environment in a fun, hands on and informal manner.

Everyone is encouraged to share photos on social media and submit pictures of their designs and their creations to be featured on the Keep Scotland Beautiful website.
