The Scottish SPCA is delighted to celebrate Scottish Animal Week 2022.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity hosts the week annually in September, and this year is taking the opportunity to celebrate being there for Scotland’s animals 365 days a year.

Scottish Animal Week launches today, September 23, and runs until September 29 and the Society hopes to raise vital funds over the week by asking the public to sign up to a 365 challenge.

The public will have the choice between taking on a gaming, fitness or DIY challenge where they can choose to fundraise in any way they like!

They can also choose to pledge to take on a 365 challenge over the next year.

The Society could not be there all year round without the public’s crucial support.

Thanks to their supporters, in the last 365 days they have cared for 5540 domestic animals across their nine animal rescue and rehoming centres and 6542 wild animals at their dedicated National Wildlife Rescue Centre.

They were successfully able to remove 1682 animals from situations where they were being mistreated or neglected, found temporary foster homes for 68 animals, and found loving forever homes for 3491 animals like horse, Eigg.

Scottish SPCA Aberdeenshire centre manager, Louise Griese, said: “Eigg came in to the care of our centre as part of a large equine welfare case.

“She was an older lady, aged 26, and due to being part of an active court case Eigg and the rest of her herd were long term residents.

“Eigg was with us for a year and a half before we could finally start searching for her forever home, but this proved difficult due to her age as well as needing special dental care and a strict diet regime.

“After an unsuccessful search for six months, a special appeal was put out to help find Eigg the perfect the home.

"Her new owner Elaine saw this appeal and was the perfect match.

“After a total of 722 days Eigg was finally rehomed.

"She is very much loved in her home and even made an appearance at her new mum’s wedding!

“We are thrilled that after so long in our care, Eigg is finally in the loving retirement home that she deserves.”

The Scottish SPCA is proud to be there for animals like Eigg 365 days a year.

From hamsters to horses and every animal in between, their dedicated teams work tirelessly to give Scotland’s animals the best chance at a happy and healthy life.

The Society could not do this without the amazing support of animal lovers across Scotland.
