Chain of office handed over to new chairperson at Huntly Probus Club

THE chain of office at Huntly Probus Club was handed over to new chairperson Lindsay Taylor at the most recent meeting.
Derek Alexander, chairperson for the previous year, handed the chain over before the meeting started.
A talk was then given by Jim McKay on the War Years at Duff house, Banff, Out of The Blue.
German prisoners of war were the held in Duff House. The crew of a U-boat U26 were caught on the surface by a Royal Navy Corvette and taken to Duff House, which was known as Camp 5.
Nissan Huts were built in the grounds for the British Army guards, the house was bombed by the Germans badly damaging the east wing, which was eventfully demolished.
Several prisoners died in the bombing, eight Germans and two British guards. There is a small monument built with a plaque with their names on it on a corner of the old foundations of the old east wing.
The German bodies were later moved to a war grave in England and the British bodies were moved to their hometowns.
The next Probus meeting is on October 5 at Huntly Golf Club at 10am for 10.30am and it is a fun in-house quiz.
