Fundraisers at one of Aberdeen’s leading cancer support centres are hoping for a wonderful week of fundraising after it was announced they would

continue to benefit from the north-east’s ultimate corporate sports competition, Sportschallenge.

The event, which returns to P&J Live on September 14, follows hot on the heels of Maggie’s Aberdeen’s special 10 th anniversary ball, which takes place on Saturday, September 9.

Now in its ninth year, the black-tie dinner Sportschallenge quiz has helped raise an astonishing £330,000 for the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary-based charity, which provides support to people diagnosed with cancer, as well as their family and friends.

The Question of Sport-style event brings together teams from companies across the region to compete in a bid to lift the Sportschallenge Trophy, with previous hosts including popular Scottish sporting personalities Alan McInally, Jim White, Ally McCoist and Andy Nicol.

Maggie’s Aberdeen Head of Fundraising Richard Stewart said: “Once again we are delighted to be named a benefactor from this year’s Sportschallenge quiz. It is a fantastic evening that is firmly established in the region’s events calendar and that is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team, trustees and everyone who gets involved.

“It has raised an astonishing amount for the centre, which has enabled us to help thousands of people with cancer, as well as their family and friends. It’s been an extraordinary partnership over the years, and we are extremely grateful and fortunate to have their support.

“The cost of running the centre and providing the expert support to our visitors is at an all-time high, which is why events such as Sportschallenge and our anniversary ball are so important.

“Both are great opportunities to bring people together and show them what a positive impact their support can have on the services we provide.”

Tickets for the anniversary ball, which takes place at the Chester Hotel, are selling fast as supporters gear up to celebrate a decade of Maggie’s in the city by dancing the night away to Totico.

Sponsored by Piper Sandler with support from CNR International, Sportschallenge recently announced it had signed a three-year contract for P&J Live to host the event until 2025.

Richard added: “With the anniversary ball and Sportschallenge taking place in quick succession, we are hopeful it will be a stunning September for everyone associated with Maggie’s Aberdeen.

“It has been a fantastic year so far with major events such as our Golf Day and Culture Crawl proving extremely popular, and we are hoping the two September shindigs will continue on that theme.

“We have hosted more than 72,000 visits from people affected by cancer since opening in September 2013, and events such as these will ensure we are able to continue to offer that support in the years to come.”
