Following the unscheduled closure of Alford Medical Practice this week over damage to the building, calls have been made for a temporary local solution to be created to ensure patients still have access to support.

Scottish Conservative MSP for Aberdeenshire West, Alexander Burnett, said: “The temporary closure of Alford Medical Practice is hugely disruptive for the community and is already being felt across the town.

“I have contacted both NHS Grampian and Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership to ask when a replacement facility will be put in place and where this will be based if the building cannot easily be made safe.

“The damage is clearly worse than first thought and underlines the need for major Scottish Government investment to refurbish ageing buildings like Alford to ensure the safety of patients and its hardworking staff.

“Alford has almost 6000 patients and the closure is having a serious impact, particularly on our most vulnerable residents, who regularly need access to a doctor or nurse.”
