A kind donation from a grateful customer has sparked a community effort to raise money for two worthwhile causes.

After years of problems accessing online utility accounts, a Turriff resident sought the advice of staff in Hardware and Tech Centre on High Street.

While the staff were not able to resolve the issue themselves, they were able to provide guidance on the nature of the issue and the most effective way to have it formally resolved, much to the relief of the customer.

The customer wished to express their gratitude with a gift, but it was decided that perhaps instead the donation could be used to raise money for charity.

Further discussion between staff and customer led to the decision to divide the money between two causes - Friends Of Turriff Cemetery, a team of volunteers who work to improve the amenity of the local cemetery for visitors, and to support those affected by the war in Ukraine, via the British Red Cross.

It was agreed that a hamper could be raffled from Hardware And Tech Centre to raise money for the charities.

Tickets, priced at £1, can be purchased from Hardware And Tech Centre, or will be available for one day only on November 19 from a table in Celebrations.

Thereafter the hamper and raffle tickets will move to the British Red Cross charity shop on Schoolhill until the time of the draw.

After hearing about the raffle other businesses in the town - including Gillies And Grant Artisan Butcher and Brown The Butchers - have come on board to donate prizes to encourage a successful fundraiser, meaning that a number of prizes are now on offer.

A hamper is amongst the prizes being raffled to raise money for Ukraine and Friends Of Turriff Cemetery.
