A Buckie man who carried out a series of break-ins and thefts throughout the area has been jailed for another 11 months.

KC Devlin was described as a Grampian prisoner when he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court via a video link earlier today.

Speaking to the 31-year-old defendant, Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald said: "These are serious offences – breaking into various premises over a period of months, causing distress to people's lives and damage to property."

Devlin admitted a total of five charges at a previous hearing.

Defence solicitor John MacColl admitted that his client, who is currently already serving a 15-month period behind bars, was facing another period of imprisonment.

But the lawyer asked the sheriff to consider a non-custodial disposal as recommended by the social worker who authored a report on Devlin's background.

Mr MacColl said: "Drugs underpin almost all of his offending. His life was chaotic at the time and drugs were prevalent. But he has never had support for beating them. I am asking the court to give him a chance to turn his life around."

However Sheriff Macdonald decided there was no alternative to prison.

On November 11 last year Devlin broke into the Buckpool Pharmacy on St Andrew's Square and stole prescription medicine.

He was arrested at an address in Buckie – which was in breach of bail conditions imposed in May, 2020, that he must stay out of Scotland.

Later that same day at Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin, he also tried to conceal a blister pack of tablets by hiding it in a toilet roll holder.

On May, 14, 2020, Devlin had been bailed to stay out of Scotland after arrest on other matters, but was found in an address in Buckie on November 11, 2021 when he was arrested for the pharmacy crime.

On February 6, Devlin broke into the North East Trader Shop on Buckie High Street and stole electrical items, a bank card and money.

Then, on March 13, at the Marine Hotel in Buckie, he stole bank books, keys, a card reader, alcohol and money.

His 11-month jail sentence has been backdated to August 9.
