BUCKIE Library is holding its Communities Day next week, where various local groups will be on hand to showcase their causes.

The event takes place on Wednesday, March 18. Organisations including local craft group The Buckie Blethers and Re-engage (formerly Contact the Elderly) will be on hand to tell visitors about themselves.

Two local authors, David Fowler and Allan Fraser, will also be participating and will have their books of local interest available for sale.

Buckie Library staff will be highlighting services available at libraries and online, and a special story time will be held at 2pm to entertain the younger generation and their parents. A fun treasure hunt will be available from 10am until 4pm.

As a fitting finale to the day, Professor Peter Reid from Robert Gordon University, a Portgordon local, will present the fascinating story of Little Norway in the evening at 7pm. Little Norway was the name given to the Norwegian and Danish refugee community established in Buckie during World War II.

This is a timely event preceding the forthcoming visit of a Norwegian delegation who will be making their way by sea, as the refugees did in wartime, to Buckie in April to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Tickets for this free event are available from Buckie Library or online https://secure.moray.gov.uk/eshop/home.php.
