BUCKIE and District Community Choir is set to return to Highfield Hall for the first time in three years next week.

The local musical group will perform at the venue on May 25 and May 26 to raise vital funds for Buckie Men's Shed and Buckie High School's food larder.

The concert, dubbed 'Sounds of the 70s', will feature a variety of songs from the era.

Jane Murray, the group's musical director, says they are looking forward to performing in a concert setting having not done so for so long.

"This is our first concert since covid stopped rehearsals," Jane said.

"We did restart the choir in August 2022 though and led the singing at the Armistice service in Cluny Square last November.

"We also sang for the Christmas Candlelight Service arranged by Buckie Roots in December that year."

The group, which formed in 2013, has raised thousands for worthy causes over the years.

In excess of £12,000 has been donated and life saving defibrillators have been installed in Findochty, Portknockie, Portressie, Portgordon and most recently Arradoul - all thanks to Buckie and District Community Choir.

Jane added: "We also have a defib which the choir takes with them to events but it's housed at Buckie Community Shop when not needed by choir.

"The purchase of these defibs and cabinets also included defib training for local residents and choir members in each area. Training was provided by Lucky2Bhere, who we purchased the defibs from."

Despite doing so much good in the community, Jane says she never imagined they could raise so much money through singing.

"When we started I never imagined that we could do so much for the community just through our singing," she added.

"We don't profess to being brilliant singers, but we all enjoy the camaraderie and fun when we get together.

"Hopefully we will be able to do a few events in the run up to Christmas as well but nothing is planned yet.

"Anyone is welcome to join us as well. Just drop us a message on our Facebook page. As we said when we began, all we ask is that you 'sing from the heart'."
