Five Buchan groups are to benefit from a share of council cash following approval by councillors.

Applications were made to the Buchan Area Committee Grant Scheme.

The five local groups applied to the scheme in a bid to help fund their community projects.

The applications were all unanimously approved by the Buchan area committee earlier on Tuesday.

Mintlaw and District Men’s Shed will get £2880 to buy a wood burning stove for their new premises at Gardeners Cottage in Aden Country Park.

The new stove will give the group a cost-effective source of heating for their social area.

Maud Village Trust will receive £3686 to install a new kitchen at the Old Mart.

The Trust will use the new facility to run cooking workshops for local families.

A sum of £2488 will be awarded to the Aden Community Allotment Association.

The group will use the cash to repair and add box roofs to ten of the allotment sheds that are starting to leak.

They also plan to buy paint, a new secure shed and a sand bucket for the car park to be used in the winter.

Peterhead Bowling Club will get £1571 to help repair its shed roof.

The shed is essential to the club as it is used to store its mower and other greenkeeping equipment.

The new roof will ensure the shed is water tight and kept in a safe condition.

Finally the Admiralty Gateway Charitable Trust will be given £3769 to install a stairlift at Peterhead Prison Museum.

A number of exhibitions are due to take place at the visitor attraction in the newly refurbished first floor of the Governor’s office block.

The new stairlift will ensure both staff and visitors are able to access all areas of the museum.

Committee chairwoman councillor Dianne Beagrie thanked the Buchan Development Partnership for their help with the fund.

She added: “It’s great to see the applications coming forward and the money going to some great initatives.”
