The final countdown to Christmas has begun, and for many that can mean only one thing – films galore!

Considering much of this festive season is likely to be spent on the couch, OnBuy wanted to find out which Christmas films the nation is addicted to and set about surveying over 4000 people to find out.

The survey asked people to share their favourite festive film and how many times they thought they watched it each year, and using this information they then calculated how long we spent watching our favourite films in a lifetime.

Revealing the results of their study, OnBuy shared that on average a Brit re-watches their favourite Christmas film three times a year which, with the average Christmas film lasting one hour and 50 minutes, equates to around 15 days in a lifetime.

The most popular film to rewatch is Jon Favreau's Elf, released in 2003, which 44 percent of people confessed to watching each year.

With a duration of 97 minutes, the average Brit spends 14 days of their life watching Will Ferrell run around New York in stockings.

Also popular were Home Alone (1990), with 41 percent admitting to watching an eight year old take on evil bandits each year, and Love Actually, with 37 percent confessing to spending a staggering 23 days of their life watching this festive favourite.

Ranking at the very bottom of the list is Scrooged, with only six percent of the UK watching this film every year.

The average Brit is predicted to spend 14 days over a lifetime re-watching Bill Murray become a reformed character, after being taunted by the ghosts of Christmas.
