A vehicle has struck the bridge at Bridgerton leading to the closure of the A980.

Motorists are advised that following an earlier collision involving a lorry, the bridge at Bridgeton on the A980 south of Alford is currently closed.

The site is to the north of Muir of Fowlis

A spokesperson for Abereenshire Council said: "The bridge has been damaged but we will only be able to undertake a full investigation once the vehicle has been removed and conditions permit.

"Signage is being installed indicating the emergency 21-day closure and local diversions are currently in place, so please allow extra time for your journey if you need to make use of the detour.

The diversion is via A980 Droichs Bridge – A944 Alford; A944 – C43M Whiteley; C43M – A980 Ladymill for larger vehicles.
