'Brewdog' takes home the Spring Show Exhibition Cattle overall championship





The Royal Northern Spring Show held at the Thainstone Centre witnessed a fantastic show of exhibition calves at the event which was held in conjunction with Aberdeen and Northern Marts, and sponsored by JDW Agri.

The pre-sale show was judged by James Nisbet, Sorn Mains, Ayrshire.

Mr Nisbet’s Overall Champion was a February 2023 born, Limousin Cross bullock called Brewdog, scaling 454kgs from William Robertson & Son, Fodderletter Farms, Tomintoul.

He will be kept for future showing in the Summer.

Reserve Overall Champion was awarded to a March 2023 born Limousin Cross Heifer scaling 420kgs from Smallburn Farms, Plewlands Farm, Duffus which went on to sell for £3,250 to Scott Drever, Orkney.

The top price of £4000 was achieved by the Reserve Champion heifer, an April 2023 born Aberdeen-Angus cross heifer scaling 440kgs, from D Work & Son, Mains of Dumbreck, Udny, Ellon. The heifer was sired by Sebay Jacobite and sold to G Cameron, Newton Cottage, Acharacle.

A 454kgs Limousin Cross Heifer from J Robertson & Co sold for £2900 to J W K Paterson & Son, Low Tree Mark Farm, Stranraer. The 12-month-old heifer was sired by Glenrock Inferno. Also, from the Robertson family was a 449kgs Limousin Cross Heifer which sold to R McKinnell & Sons, Garrarie Farm, Newton Stewart for £2700.

In the bullock's section, a 465kgs limousin cross bullock from Finlay Hunter, West Cairnhill, Culsalmond, Insch sold for £2450 to Wilson Peters, Cuilt Farmhouse, Monzie, Crieff. The February 2023 born bullock was sired by Johnstown Premier.

A Limousin Cross Bullock scaling 468kgs from the Robertsons at Fodderletter sold for £2300 to R McKinnell & Sons, Garrarie Farm, Newton Stewart. The March 2023 born bullock was sired by Carnew Millreef.

Next best price in the bullocks was for the Reserve Champion bullock, from D Work & Son, Mains of Dumbreck, Udny, Ellon. This was a 509kgs bullock which was born in April 2023, was sired by Sebay Jacobite and went on to sell for £2,200 to J W K Paterson & Son, Low Tree Mark Farm, Stranraer.

An October born 2022, 575kgs bullock sired by Huntershall Nutcracker from J A Morrison, Newtack Crossroads, Keith went on to self for £2000 to S Smith, Sunnyhill Farms, Clayson House, Claymires.

A 465kgs Limousin Bullock called Bees Knees from Craig Coutts, Anfield Mains of Tonley, Alford sold for £1750 to B T Kitson, Hutton Rudby, North Yorkshire. The March 2023 born bullock was sired by Duncans Peter.

Miller Farms, North Lurg, Midmar sold their 505kgs Limousin Cross Bullock for £1720 selling also selling to B T Kitson, Hutton Rudby, North Yorkshire. This March 2023 born bullock was sired by Westpit Reno.

A home-bred unhaltered June 2022 born Limousin Cross Heifer from C&J Hendry of Auchinderran, Keith scaling 532kgs sold for £2,100 to B T Kitson, Hutton Rudby, North Yorkshire.
