Pupils were turned away from the Gordon Schools this morning as engineers worked to fix a suspected gas leak.

Announcing the closure at 8:15 this morning, Aberdeenshire Council said the closure was due to a "potential health and safety issue".

However they have since confirmed that urgent efforts were underway to isolate the gas system.

Council staff expect to open the school tomorrow, however engineers are still on site.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said: “A decision was made to close The Gordon Schools in Huntly this morning after a suspected gas leak was discovered.

“The gas was immediately isolated and as a precaution, the school has been closed for the day.

“Gas engineers are on site and we hope the school can open as normal tomorrow.”
