TWO boys have been charged in connection with a break-in and flares being set off at a Buckie shipyard.

Flares were set off at a Commercial Street shipyard shortly after midnight on August 21, which resulted in emergency services – including the Coastguard – responding.

The following day, police received a report that, earlier in the night, the shipyard had been broken into by youths.

The youths had inflated a life raft and stole flares from survival kits, and the incidents were treated as linked.

Two teenagers have now been charged in connection with both incidents and will be reported to the Youth Justice Assessor.

Constable Christopher MacKinnon said: “I would like to thank the public for their assistance during our investigation.”
