Keith manager praises ‘excellent’ victory over Forres Mechanics in Highland League

Keith manager Craig Ewen has hailed his side’s “fantastic” Highland League week after back-to-back wins.

The Maroons knocked Brora Rangers off the top of the table with a 3-2 win at Dudgeon Park on Saturday - and followed it up with a 4-0 thrashing of Forres Mechanics last night.

It’s the first time Keith have scored four in a game in almost two years - since a 6-1 victory over Strathspey Thistle on October 8, 2022.

Ewen said: “We were excellent all over the pitch.

“We were dominant from the first whistle and it was just a case of scoring the goals and converting the pressure.

“All we wanted was the three points, but to get four goals and a clean sheet against a good side like Forres - we are delighted.

“Forres have been scoring goals for fun so to restrict them to very limited chances, if any, is really pleasing.”

Keith went ahead in the 20th minute when central defender Ronan Craib grabbed his first Maroons goal from a corner.

The Maroons doubled their advantage 10 minutes later through Horace Ormsby’s neat outside-of-the-foot finish.

Ormsby’s second on 75 minutes put the game out of sight and captain James Brownie’s diving header wrapped up a convincing victory.

“There were a lot of aspects of our game that were really pleasing and if we could replicate that every week we would be doing quite well and moving forward,” Ewen said.

“It’s just about trying to build that consistency.

“We have had an excellent week so far and now we go into another difficult game against Formartine with good confidence levels.

“We have to hope the boys can recover because three games a week can make it difficult and we do have a lot of boys injured so we are running on empty a little bit.

“We are lucky this year that we have a fair bit of depth.”
