Councillors at the Garioch Area Committee have today confirmed that the booking system for waste sites at Insch, Inverurie and Westhill will be retained when a Shire wide revision takes place at the end of November.

A previous decision by the infrastructure services committee over access means that the booking system is to be removed from November 28 in Banff & Buchan, Buchan, and Marr areas while in Formartine it will be put onto a hybrid booking system, which will allow for non-booking days each Wednesday and Saturday.

Garioch councillors asked for further discussion and at the meeting the proposal was put forward to either retain it in full or adopt the two day trial as in Formatine.

Councillor Jim Gifford questioned if the system was capable of coping with "the dogs dinner " this would present to residents depending on where there chose to take waste, to which officers confirmed it could.

Queries were also raised over the effects of the entry system on trade waste levels and fly tipping, both of which officers said they were happy with and were at acceptable levels.

A motion made by councillor Gifford, supported by councillor Judy Whyte to retain the full booking system was passed by 10 votes to three so the system will remain as is in the Garioch.
