BBC Presenter's career talk at Garioch Heritage Society
Journalism, 'from the inside out' was the theme for guest speaker broadcaster Rachel Stewart at the Garioch Heritage Society meeting at the centre, in Inverurie on Wednesday writes Griselda McGregor.
A farmer's daughter from Huntly she has come a long way in a varied career in journalism in Scotland and England.
Currently her voice will be familiar to many as a presenter on BBC Scotland's Saturday morning Scotland Outdoors programme.
Her success and popularity must be down to her genuine interest in people and interesting, sometimes difficult situations
She and her husband have made their home in Inverurie and among her favourite topics are local culture and heritage.
Her work as television journalist, though enjoyably challenging, is by no means as glamourous as one might imagine.
She explained:" I'm often out in the wilds in aweful weather - there are certainly no make-up artists or hairdressers on hand."
Rachel finished her presentation with a film celebrating 100 years of BBC in Aberdeen. which gave images of many of the headline-hitting events in Aberdeen such as the typhoid epidemic in 1964 and the oil platform Piper Alpha tragedy in the 1970s as well as happier times.
Vote of thanks was given by society member Joan Bruce.
The next society meeting is on Wednesday, March 6 when the guest speaker will be Andy Wrate on Viking age boats and their uses
