Banff Hill Walking Group is looking to add new members for the New Year.

Its numbers have not recovered since Covid and with the price of transport to the walks increasing it is struggling to keep going.

Member Ian Rennie said: "We should have enough in the funds to continue until the end of 2023 then the group would have to wind up.

"The club started in about 1987 and was founded by Jessie Davidson and Bob Still.

"In 1993 it almost stopped but a few of us called a meeting at the community centre in Banff and got a few names that were interested so we booked a bus and hoped we had enough to pay for it. Fortunately it took off again."

Mr Rennie ran the group for about 11 years and stepped down about eight years ago. It is now led by Christine Sim with members helping to make up monthly walks and leading them.

He added: "We usually have two walks on the day, which is always a Sunday with the next one on January 15, a low level walk and a high level one for those who want more of a challenge.

"The bus usually leaves Macduff and travels through Banff, Portsoy, Buckie, Keith and sometimes through Huntly, depending where the walk is on the day."
