A Banff youngster’s care packages have been helping people to stay positive over lockdown and benefiting a charity close to her heart.

Skye Hale-Smith (11) saw that a lot of families and good causes were struggling at present and decided she wanted to do something to support them.

She came up with the idea of making positivity packs which have a variety of treats for people to raise their spirits during these tough times.

Skye, who was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate, is donating the proceeds from the packs to the charity CLAPA (Cleft Lip and Palate Association), which supports people affected by the conditions.

Her mum Amanda said: “Skye decided to do the positivity packs to raise money for CLAPA initially, as this is a charity close to her heart as she, herself, was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate.

“The charity has sadly suffered due to lockdown and had to let several members of staff go and with the major fundraising events being cancelled, it has really struggled. Therefore, Skye wanted to help.

“She made some positivity packs and worry and gratitude jars. Two batches sold out really quickly and she raised in the region of £230 for CLAPA.”

Skye has just launched her last set and this time the proceeds will go to local charity Deveron Enable Club, which supports people with learning disabilities.

Her mum added: “This time she has two sizes of children’s feel good Friday bags as well as adults chill bags, filled jars and tins of fudge, keyrings

and bracelets.

“We hope to raise a similar amount for the Deveron Enable Club.”

Skye has been supported by local businesses and individuals and the family are grateful to Castlegate in Banff; Tesco; Crown Fish and Chip Shop; Berties Sweets; Candy Box; Murdoch Plumbing; Margaret Souter; Zoe Harmer; and Michelle Findlay.

Anyone who would like a positivity pack can contact the family through Amanda’s Facebook page.

Skye has just left King Edward Primary School and will move to Banff Academy after the summer.

At the primary school’s leavers assembly on Friday she received the endeavour award, which was in recognition of her charity work.
