Banff community orchard planted in memory of The Queen

The Vinery in Banff welcomed volunteers to plant 50 Scottish heritage varied fruit trees.

The community orchard was planted as The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Memorial Community Orchard.

Greenspace Banffshire a local group applied for funding from the Co-op Local Community Fund and was awarded £1600 for the project based in the Walled Garden of The Vinery, which is managed by Aberdeen Foyer.

Michelle Walker, the chairwoman and founder of Greenspace Banffshire, said: “We were absolutely astounded by the community support shown to raise the money and also to plant the community orchard.

"We had fun and made new friends, there was a real community spirit."

One of the 25 volunteers was Banffshire Lord Lieutenant Andrew Simpson who lended a helping hand to the group.
