Banff's River Church hosted the National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast for the local area.

Over many years Westminster has run this prayer breakfast on location in London but due to current restrictions the organisers asked if churches across the country would partner with them at their own locations.

Minsters, Pastors and church leaders were invited from the local area to join Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid, former MSP Stewart Stevenson and Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire Andrew Simpson, who were some of the dignitaries. The event adhered to current Covid-19 guidelines.

The purpose was to ask the question: How do churches, government officials and local council work together to support their local communities?

Pastor Rob McArthur of River Church said: “We were delighted to be able to host this event and so very honoured with the wonderful response we had from churches locally and also from our elected officials.

"To have these people in the same room with the same heart to support and encourage our communities was wonderful.

"We did join MP Andrea Leadsom on livestream from Westminster who chaired this years event.

"We look forward to seeing how we can partner with the National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast initiative in the future."

Every year, hundreds of church leaders and their local MPs gather together in Westminster Hall in Parliament for the National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast.

This provides an opportunity for church leaders and MPs to strengthen relationships.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, it was still not possible for everyone to gather in Westminster Hall this year.

However, church leaders were encouraged to gather together locally, invite their MP to watch the Breakfast with them and spend some time afterwards discussing how they can work together to serve their local communities.

Church leaders, local and national elected government officials who were not at the Banff event are welcome to join future sessions. For more information contact the team at River Church at admin@riverchurchbanff.co.uk
