John Stewart Butchers in Banff won silver awards for three pastry products all developed by apprentices.

The shop also took home a gold award for its sirloin steak in the naked steak category.

Shop owner Andy Grant shop said: "The reason that it's good to get all of those silver awards is because these products were actually done by our three apprentices.

"It was great for them.

"They took the lead and made all the products themselves.

"We as management had very little involvement in it.

"It was a great experience for them."

Apprentices Robbie Lawson, Adam French and Jamie Sutherland thought up the three winning pastry products: a greek passion wellington, a cheeseburger puff and a hunter's chicken bake.

The Scottish Craft Butcher awards were presented at a ceremony on October 26 at Elgin's Laichmoray Hotel.

Mr Grant said: "I am chuffed for them.

"In the photo we have you can see by their faces and their smiles that they are quite happy with themselves.

"Also it is great to get a gold award for the sirloin steak so we are delighted about that.

"I am just delighted for the apprentices getting those awards and it was a great night.

"I am happy enough."
