A BANFF bakery has closed its doors for the final time due to the retirement of its owners.

Seafield Bakery, owned by Duncan and Audrey Clark, thanked its loyal customers for their support over the years before closing.

Mr and Mrs Clark announced their plans to sell the business, which has been in the family since it was bought by Duncan's grandparents in the 1930s, earlier this year.

The shop remains up for sale, while the popular local bakery closed on Saturday, April 18.

The bakery, located on Seafield Street, was well known in the local area for their Mr Blobby biscuits, as well as other delicacies.

So well known was the bakery for its Mr Blobby biscuits, in fact, that Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Stewart Stevenson tabled a motion at Holyrood to pay tribute to the couple's invention, and wish them a happy retirement.

SNP MSP Stevenson said: "Seafield Bakery has been a fixture of the Banff shopping scene for generations.

"Duncan and Audrey are nothing short of local heroes known for their skilled pies, delicious biscuits and scrumptious snacks.

"The pair have always provided service with a smile and have become somewhat famous locally for their reputation serving up some of the best sweet treats the north-east has to offer.

"Seafield Bakery will be deeply missed by many of us in Banff, but I wish Mr and Mrs Clark many happy years of well-earned retirement."

The couple also ran Deveronvale Football Club's pie shop at Princess Royal Park for decades. Duncan has served on the club's committee, with his father previously president.

'Vale said the closing of the bakery was "the end of an era" for the town.

The club added: "All at Deveronvale thank Duncan and Audrey for their support over the years and wish them a very happy retirement.

"We hope to see them at Princess Royal Park, with more time to watch the football, for many years to come."
