A FOUNDER member of the Huntly Marie Curie group eleven years ago and its chairwoman for almost six years has stepped down from the lead role.

Alison Nicoll chose to support the charity’s work after witnessing the end-of-life care which her two brothers received and her commitment to the charity’s work earned her an Always Compassionate accolade at the Marie Curie People Awards in London several years ago.

The award was given to just 10 people selected from across the UK.

Since its formation, the group has raised over £118,000 to help patients and their families with end of life care - a testament to the leadership of Alison, along with members of the committee.

She also volunteered with the charity to visit families to support them as a member passes through the final months, weeks and days of their life.

Alison’s place at the helm is being shared by her daughter, Debbie Morrison and Emma McGhee.

Alison said: “I have loved every minute of my time with Marie Curie and been lucky to have a good hard-working committee. I wish Debbie and Emma and the group continued success and I will still be around.”

After a long lapse from fundraising, the group recently held a tipsy tea party and has a couple of events coming up before the end of the year.

On, Thursday, November 25, a long time supporter of Marie Curie , Liz Brown is working with the group to stage a pre-loved fashion show in Huntly Golf Club.

Top quality items have been sourced in styles and sizes to suit everyone and at budget prices.

Tickets cost £5 and are available from the Golf Club, Largue Pharmacy, Huntly Carpet Centre,by emailing huntlymariecurie@gmail.com or committee members.

There will be a raffle and also a special draw for a hamper.

On Friday, December 10, the group host a Family Prize Bingo at the Ex-Servicemens Club, where it’s eyes down 7.30pm.

Work is also under way to compile a recipe book inspired by the food which got people through lockdown.

People are urged to share their recipes for meals, snacks or tasty cakes which will feature alongside some celebrity recipes in the book.

Youngsters are also being encouraged to join in a Penguin Parade in the run up to Christmas.

The aim is to get groups and classes of youngsters up to P7, to go for a waddle of any distance at their nursery or primary school.

Into next year, the group hopes to stage a coffee morning, Spring fling dinner and dance, Sunrise walk and their famous Tipsy Tea which has already sold out.
