Dr Jessie Watt from Daviot near Inverurie has supported the food parcels created by the Garioch Community Kitchen through online sales of her two novels.

Some twenty years ago she wrote two novels, both of which are set in the North of Scotland.

Her debut work Holm Sweet Holm is a historical novel which pertains to the coastal communities.

But it is her second book Metal Rose which was written as more of a futuristic novel, bordering on science fiction that readers have pointed out shows startling similarities to what is happening with the current pandemic.

Passages from the book echo the current state of the UK.

Set in the north of Scotland it is the story of a young scientist with a very rare genetic anomaly who is infertile, unless she can find a compatible mate.

She sets out on a worldwide search, amidst a growing viral pandemic

A spokeswoman for the Community Kitchen said: "Jessie had recently sold some copies of the novels and wanted to donate the proceeds to a local cause and has very kindly purchased groceries to go out in our food parcels."

The author still has a few hard copies of the books left and is happy to post any UK address for a donation while Metal Rose is also available as a kindle version on Amazon, at a cost of £2.39.
