Sean and Jade Buchan, who live in Insch applied for planning permission in December last year to reinstate the former Ashgrove truck stop on the A96.

The site which is four miles north of Huntly is located within the existing yard at the site adjacent to the filling station.

Due to the location at the side of the A96, consultation was required with both Aberdeenshire's Roads officers and Transport Scotland, both of whom have approved the designs.

Accordingly, with all other parts of the planning in place, the full application was granted this week allowing progress to start.

A spokesperson for agents John Wink Design said: "Working with Aberdeenshire Council and Transport Scotland's requirements, we are pleased to announce the approval of the planning application for the new Ashgrove Truck Stop. "We are looking forward to progressing this project to site and are very excited for our clients."

Commenting back when the application was submitted Jade Buchan said: “Sean grew up in Cairnie close to the Ashgrove, so he saw it at its prime.

"It was an iconic place and he knew how much the local and wider community enjoyed going there.

“It was heartbreaking to see it dwindle into nothing and it became Sean’s dream to run the Ashgrove and go that step further than before to make it a proper establishment for lorry drivers by providing proper shower facilities."

The Ashgrove was one of the only signposted services along the A96 and closed around 10 years ago, Jade concleded: " "We hope to put the spark back into the Ashgrove.”
