Mintlaw Public Hall has been warmed by a £13,500 grant from the Asda Foundation.

The committee that operate the hall were thrilled to learn that they would receive the money thanks to support from Asda Peterhead's community champion Zoe Scarisback.

The money has been used towards the purchase and installation of a new heating system for the hall.

The hall's chairwoman Hilda Keith said the grant was the biggest the not-for-profit organisation had ever received.

She said: "The hall was built in 1893 and we have been dragging it into the 21st century for a while now!

"It's in the centre of the village and it does get used quite a lot - it's a popular place.

"We have Rainbows, Brownies and Guides here and a pensioners' club, indoor bowling, line dancers and Highland dancers!

"The new heating system is brilliant and we can't thank Zoe and Jane from the Asda Foundation enough for sorting out the grant.

"It's a massive amount for us, the most we have been given for anything."

Community champion Zoe was only too happy to help the group.

She said: "I reached out to the Mintlaw Public Hall as they were fundraising to upgrade it.

"The hall took an hour to heat up with the previous heating system, but with the new system it heats up within 15 minutes which is great."
