MORAY'S MP has been presented with an artwork depicting one of the region's iconic landmarks.

The Covesea Lighthouse painting, by Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year finalist Gregor Henderson, was donated by Sky to Scottish Conservative Douglas Ross to mark the launch of Sky Arts as a free-to-air channel.

The TV channel dedicated to arts and culture becomes free to watch across the UK from today, September 17, on Freeview "to bring more of the arts to more people".

Covesea Lighthouse, on the outskirts of Lossiemouth, was one of just 40 sites chosen from across the UK to mark the launch.

Mr Ross said: "It was a pleasure to meet Gregor and I am delighted that Covesea Lighthouse was chosen as one of the UK sites to mark the launch.

"Sky were looking for iconic locations to capture from across the country and I’m delighted they picked Moray and Covesea Lighthouse.

"The fact that only 40 pieces of art were commissioned across the UK shows how special our landscape and buildings are here in Moray.

"The project celebrates the diversity of landscapes and buildings across the country and the power of art to offer new perspectives.

"There has never been a more critical time to support the UK’s vibrant arts sector.

"I am hopeful that in making this cultural programming available to all, Sky can inspire greater participation in the arts from new and diverse audiences."

Gregor is a Glasgow School of Art graduate.

Until today, Sky Arts was available only to Sky or Now TV subscribers.
