A NEW creative project to design and build an accessible garden shelter began in Huntly’s Brander Garden last week.
As part of a collaboration between artist Susie Dalton and young people from Huntly outdoor after school club TOADS, the shelter will be designed with wildlife, plants and people in mind.
In their first session, the group was joined by BBC Scotland’s Out of Doors who interviewed Susie and the TOADS about their plans for the project.
Over the coming months, the project will explore ways of working together to develop models and plans using recycled materials and clay, with the finished shelter opening at a special Garden Gala day in early spring 2024.
Susie Dalton is a visual artist and ceramicist based in Dundee, working with clay and other sculptural materials.
With a background in archaeology and children’s rights, Susie enjoys working creatively with young people to think about our past, present, and future.
The project was instigated by Huntly arts organisation Deveron Projects, after a successful application to the Green Action Trust's CSGN Growing Food Together Fund.
Susie was selected by the young people in TOADS to work with them through a fun and collaborative selection process, involving video, games, and voting.
Keep an eye on the Deveron Projects Facebook page for updates as the shelter takes shape.
