Locals around the Methlick area are being urged to be on the lookout after thieves made off with an unusual item in broad daylight.

A spokesman for Methlick Community Gardens explained: "On Wednesday between 4pm -6pm a large white cast iron bath was stolen from Methlick Community Gardens.

"The bath had small trees in it, was filled with gravel and compost, the thieves left the little trees and took the bath complete with compost and gravel.

"This would have required a van and more than one person to uplift the bath from inside the gate at the garden.

"The gardens are worked by a small group of dedicated people and we are really struggling to understand as to why anyone would steal from such a lovely little community garden which offers a relaxing environment for anyone to come and relax and enjoy.

"This is not the first time that items have been stolen, we have had roses and plants taken out of the beds but this latest theft has left us wondering just why?."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
