Officers in Alford are appealing for information following two incidents of wilful fireraising to a number of straw bales on Thursday and Friday.

The incidents happened between 6pm and 8.40pm on Thursday and between 4.30pm and 6.30pm on Friday, near to Burbank Road.

Around 20 straw bales were set alight.

Constable Wayne Young said: “Fireraising is extremely dangerous and it was very fortunate that the fire did not spread to the nearby woodland or cause more serious damage.

"These type of incidents are not acceptable and I am keen to trace the person or people responsible.

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 3836 of 24 September or 3398 of 25 September."

Scottish Fire and Rescue were called to the outskirts of Inverurie on Wednesday evening when two fire appliances attended at a farm near Inverurie, just off the B9170 to the north of Uryside.

Firefighters took almost an hour to extinguish the fire which also involved hay bales.
