Traffic lights will be in operation between 9.15am and 3.30pm on weekdays until Friday, July 5.

The work includes replacing drains and installing new gullies.

Over the years severe flooding has repeatedly been seen on this stretch of the A96, which is used by more than 8000 vehicles every day.

At least 200 motorists were left stranded in the town shortly after Christmas when the route was closed for 30 hours because large pools of water made it impassable.

The Gordon Arms Hotel and Huntly’s fire station were amongst those who stepped in to help. Volunteers also opened up the Stewart's Hall, where free hot food and drinks were provided, along with blankets and access to phone chargers.

The £108,000 anti-flooding work is being carried out by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland.
